Engine repair questions
Straight answers to what drivers ask us most. Something else on your mind? Call (951) 445-8055.
What should I do if my engine is overheating?
Turn off the A/C and turn the heater on full to pull heat away from the engine, then pull over safely and shut it off. Never open the radiator cap on a hot engine; the coolant is under pressure. Driving an overheating engine can warp the cylinder head, so have it towed if the gauge stays high.
How do I know if my car has an oil leak?
Look for dark spots under the car, a burning oil smell after driving, smoke from under the hood, or an oil level that keeps dropping. Common sources are valve cover gaskets, oil pan gaskets and seals. We clean the area, find the actual source and give you a written estimate.
What causes an engine to misfire?
Worn spark plugs, a failing ignition coil, a clogged fuel injector or a vacuum leak are the usual causes. You'll feel shaking, rough idle or hesitation, and the check engine light often comes on or flashes. Misfires are worth fixing quickly because they can damage the catalytic converter.
Is engine repair covered by your warranty?
Yes. Repairs are backed by our 1-year/12,000-mile warranty, and you get a written estimate before any work begins, so nothing is done without your approval.
