Tires and wheels questions
Straight answers to what drivers ask us most. Something else on your mind? Call (951) 445-8055.
When should I replace my tires?
When the tread reaches 2/32 of an inch (if you can see the top of Lincoln's head in the penny test), when the sidewall is cracked or bulging, or when the tires are six to ten years old. For wet roads, replacing around 4/32 gives better grip.
How often should tires be rotated?
Most owner's manuals call for every 5,000 to 7,500 miles, which lines up with many oil change intervals. Rotation evens out wear between front and rear so the set lasts longer.
Why does my steering wheel shake at highway speed?
The most common cause is a wheel out of balance, often after a wheel weight falls off. A bent wheel, a damaged tire or worn suspension parts can cause it too. Balancing is usually the first thing we check.
What tire pressure should I use?
Use the pressure on the sticker on the driver's door edge or door pillar, not the maximum printed on the tire. Check it monthly when the tires are cold; pressure drops about one psi for every 10 degrees.
