Exhaust and muffler repair questions
Straight answers to what drivers ask us most. Something else on your mind? Call (951) 445-8055.
What are the signs of an exhaust leak?
A louder engine, a ticking or puffing sound that's worse on a cold start, a rattle under the car, an exhaust smell in the cabin, or a check engine light for an oxygen sensor reading. An exhaust smell inside the car is a safety issue because of carbon monoxide; have it checked right away.
Why is my car suddenly much louder?
Usually a hole in the muffler or pipe, a broken hanger, a failed gasket or a cracked flex pipe. A sudden roar on a car parked overnight can also mean the catalytic converter was cut out.
Can an exhaust problem cause a check engine light?
Yes. Leaks ahead of the oxygen sensors throw off their readings, and a failing catalytic converter sets efficiency codes. We find the cause before replacing parts.
Is exhaust work covered by a warranty?
Yes. Repairs are backed by our 1-year/12,000-mile warranty, and you get a written estimate before any work begins, so nothing is done without your approval.
