Brake repair questions
Straight answers to what drivers ask us most. Something else on your mind? Call (951) 445-8055.
How do I know if I need new brakes?
The common signs are a squeal that doesn't go away, grinding or scraping, a pedal that feels soft or sinks, the car pulling to one side when you stop, a pulsing pedal or a shaking steering wheel when braking, and the brake warning light. Grinding or a soft pedal means bring it in right away.
Do I need new rotors every time I replace brake pads?
Not always. If the rotors are smooth, above the minimum thickness stamped on them and not causing a pulsation, they can stay. If the pads wore down to metal and scored them, or they're under spec, they need replacing. We measure them and show you before recommending either.
How often should brakes be inspected?
Once a year is a good rule, and sooner if you do a lot of stop-and-go driving, tow, or drive the hills around the lake. Many drivers have the brakes checked with an oil change or tire rotation, since the wheels are coming off anyway.
Is your brake work covered by a warranty?
Yes. Repairs are backed by our 1-year/12,000-mile warranty, and you get a written estimate before any work begins, so nothing is done without your approval.
