Oil change questions

How often should I change my oil?
Follow your owner's manual or the oil-life monitor on the dash. Many newer cars on synthetic oil go 5,000 to 10,000 miles between changes. Short trips, stop-and-go traffic, towing, dust and summer heat count as severe service in most manuals, which calls for the shorter interval.
Should I use synthetic or conventional oil?
Use what your owner's manual specifies; many newer engines require synthetic. The viscosity, such as 0W-20 or 5W-30, is usually printed on the oil filler cap. High-mileage blends are an option for older engines that seep or burn a little oil.
What happens if I go too long without an oil change?
Old oil breaks down and stops protecting the engine. Sludge builds up, parts wear faster, and engines with variable valve timing can start setting check engine lights. Low oil from a leak or burning is even harder on the engine, so check the dipstick between changes.
Do I need an appointment for an oil change?
Calling ahead or requesting a time online is the best way to make sure we're ready for you. We're open Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM. Call (951) 445-8055 or request an appointment.
